Supports through Donation
Donations in Japan
In the spirit of "Innovation today, healthier tomorrows," Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma promotes social contribution activities in the hope that every patient we serve and the families can lead a healthier and more fulfilling life tomorrow, even if the improvement might be gradual. As we focus on fostering the future generation of people and extending assistance to patients and their families, voluntary financial contribution by our officers and employees is matched by a corresponding Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma donation and presented to organizations that promote such causes.
In fiscal 2015, Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma provided donations in the form of funds to assist with activities to the Japan Mental Health Peer Support Specialists Training Organization, the Japan Association of Certified Child Life Specialists, and the Japan Association of Medical Translation for Cancer.

International Contribution Activities
Global health is a matter of major importance to the Company. We continually support efforts of international stakeholders such as the one described below that strive to improve the health care of people around the around.
Provision of Health Education Program for Children and Mothers
Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma is implementing a health-education program for children and mothers in the Kampong Cham District, Cambodia. The company is engaged in initiatives to promote health checkups for infant and pregnant women, regular education and training on nutrition and hygiene, and home-visit childcare support in collaboration with NPO, local governments and communities.
Financial Assistance for Eradication of Malaria
HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, the three major infectious diseases, are global problems that cannot be solved by one country alone but need international cooperation to take steps to address them. Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma supports the initiatives for eradication of malaria in a few countries in Asia and Africa. The company has cooperated with NPO, local governments and communities to provide insecticide-treated mosquito net, rapid diagnostic test kits for malaria, and educational activities in Zambia, Tanzania, and Indonesia, as well as advocacy initiatives in Japan.
Financial Assistance to Examine Tuberculosis
Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma supports initiatives to improve access to healthcare in developing countries. The company has cooperated with NPO to implement training and education of nurses in Bangladesh. In Haiti, the company has cooperated with NPO to implement regular medical examinations for tuberculosis and training of physicians.
Fight Against Counterfeit Pharmaceuticals
The problem with counterfeit pharmaceuticals is not merely that they have no therapeutic effect, but that they also carry the risk of death caused by unexpected side effects. They also pose an international problem as they could easily be turned into financial resources for organized crime and terrorist organizations.
Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma is one of the 29 global pharmaceutical companies (including eight companies based in Japan) that are working together to donate to the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) a total of 4.5 million Euro over a three-year period beginning in 2013.
The donation is used to fund an INTERPOL Pharmaceutical Crime Programme directed toward public outreach on counterfeit pharmaceuticals and capacity building of investigators.
