Completion of New Pharmacology Research Laboratory

We, Sumitomo Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. have been in the process of constructing a new Pharmacology Research Laboratory at our Research Division site in Konohana-ku, Osaka, which was completed on September 30.

The Pharmacology Research Laboratory conducts studies from new drug discovery to application for drug manufacturing approval. As R&D activities have expanded, however, the existing facilities were becoming confined. The company has proceeded with the new research laboratory not only to solve this issue but also to ensure into the future the continued high level of reliability of its pharmacology studies, completing construction as originally planned.

The new Pharmacology Research Laboratory building is a steel-framed, reinforced concrete structure with nine floors aboveground and one underground, for a total floor area of over 14,000 square meter. Its most modern features include The Reliability Criteria for Application Data of New Drugs -compliant clean rooms with controlled airflow and access, and information facilities for processing and analyzing laboratory data electronically.

We will use the new Pharmacology Research Laboratory to promote research and development for new drugs.
